Periodontal Treatment — Gum Diseases

Periodontal diseases affect the tissues surrounding the teeth — the gums, the bone, and the ligaments. Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) is the mildest form; if left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis, which may lead to tooth loss.

The main signs of gingivitis are redness and swelling of the gums and bleeding during brushing. The primary cause is calculus and bacterial plaque. With professional dental cleaning and proper oral hygiene, gingivitis can be fully treated.

Periodontitis is a more serious stage — the gum separates from the tooth, a pocket forms, and bone loss begins. Treatment methods include deep curettage, root surface planing, antibiotic therapy, and surgical intervention. Early diagnosis significantly increases the success of treatment.
